About Ian M. Foran, MD
Ian Foran, MD, is an orthopedic surgeon who specializes in all foot and ankle disorders. He has strong interests in total ankle replacement, sports-related injuries, arthroscopy of the foot and ankle, deformity correction and reconstruction, cartilage restoration, arthritis, bunions, heel pain, and fractures about the foot and ankle.
Dr. Foran's approach to medicine and surgery can be summed up by the words of Dr. Francis W. Peabody: "One of the essential qualities of the clinician is interest in humanity, for the secret of the care of the patient is in caring for the patient." He takes pride in caring for patients as he would his own family and strives to ensure their treatment runs as smoothly as possible.
Dr. Foran is actively engaged in basic science and clinical research and has authored multiple original science papers. He serves as an expert reviewer for the prestigious journals Foot and Ankle International, Foot and Ankle Orthopaedics, and Foot and Ankle Specialist.
Dr. Foran completed fellowship training in foot and ankle surgery at Rush University Medical Center in Chicago with distinguished surgeons Drs. Simon Lee, Johnny Lin, Kamran Hamid and George Holmes. He completed residency orthopedic surgery training at UC San Diego School of Medicine, where he served his final year as peer-elected administrative chief resident. He won the senior resident teaching award, orthopedic resident research award, and the Orthopaedic Institute for Children Research Paper Award. Dr. Foran earned his medical degree from UCLA David Geffen School of Medicine. There he received numerous letters of distinction - including those in surgery and internal medicine - and received admission into the Alpha Omega Alpha (AOA) Honor Society.
Dr. Foran is an active member of the American Orthopaedic Foot and Ankle Society (AOFAS) and a fellow of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgery (AAOS).
Outside of work Dr. Foran enjoys tennis, hiking, surfing, sailboating, jazz and classical music, and spending time with his family.
