Afaaf Shakir, MD, is a plastic and reconstructive surgeon who specializes in microsurgery, breast reconstruction, lower extremity reconstruction, lymphedema surgery and general reconstruction.
She's enthusiastic about providing each patient with compassionate, individualized care to meet their reconstructive goals. "I'm privileged to be able to care for patients during some of the hardest parts of their lives," she said. "I aim to help patients feel whole again through restoration of form, function and aesthetics."
As an assistant professor in the UC San Diego School of Medicine, Dr. Shakir trains medical students, interns and residents. She also conducts research on clinical outcomes for complex reconstruction.
Dr. Shakir completed fellowship training in microsurgery at New York University's Hansjörg Wyss Department of Plastic Surgery, after completing her plastic and reconstructive surgery residency at University of Chicago Medicine. She earned her medical degree from the Stanford University School of Medicine.
In her free time, Dr. Shakir enjoys traveling, cooking and spending time with her husband and dog.
