About Eric Yuan, MD

Eric Yuan, MD, is a board-certified family medicine doctor who also specializes in sports medicine. His expertise includes diagnosing, treating, and preventing both acute and chronic diseases in the scope of primary care. He also has additional fellowship training in sports medicine and is adept in the care of athletic injuries. Dr. Yuan has a particular interest in using musculoskeletal ultrasound to perform diagnostic and therapeutic treatments. He provides primary care and sports medicine care for patients of all ages, including preventive care and treatment of acute and chronic diseases.

Dr. Yuan believes that delivering optimal care to patients involves a holistic approach. He values continuity of care and getting to know the lives of his patients and their families outside of the office. In his practice, he often reflects on his personal goal of achieving a well-balanced lifestyle when advising patients to seek balance of their own. He relishes the opportunity to help his patients effectively blend fitness, work, nutrition, family, socialization, mindfulness and mental health. Drawing from his volunteer experiences with mentoring youth, adults, families, the underserved population, and the homeless population, he appreciates how difficult maintaining proper health and life balance may be. These experiences have also made him aware of the unique circumstances that impact medical care for all walks of life.

In his youth, he was a multi-sport athlete with particular interest in basketball and football which he played at the high school level. In college, he continued to play club basketball, flag football, and ultimate frisbee. He speaks Mandarin and Shanghai dialect at a colloquial level as well as basic Spanish.

Dr. Yuan completed a residency and sports medicine fellowship at UC San Diego School of Medicine. He completed his medical school education at Wake Forest University School of Medicine.

Dr. Yuan is a member of the American Academy of Family Physicians and the American Medical Society for Sports Medicine. He is board certified in family medicine and sports medicine.

Outside of the office, Dr. Yuan enjoys many activities, including football, basketball, tennis, fitness training, and hiking/backpacking. He is also an avid enthusiast of attending concerts, traveling, and trying new cuisines. Dr. Yuan speaks basic Spanish and conversational Mandarin and Shanghai dialect.
