About Jessica Sullivan, DO
Jessica Sullivan, DO, is a board-certified medical oncologist who specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of breast cancer. She is an advocate of treating the whole patient through supportive care plans, psychosocial support, and understanding family dynamics and the patient's state of mind. Dr. Sullivan feels that all of these processes play a role in healing. She supports the patient's perspective and autonomy in the care plan, while providing her expertise and knowledge to guide the person through treatment.
Her greatest strength is her ability to communicate and listen to where her patients are coming from, particularly in times of distress. What she most enjoys about her work is interacting with patients and helping them through the most difficult of times, as well as celebrating their victories with them.
Dr. Sullivan chose to focus on oncology because it is a field in which she can have the most impact on a patient's life. She likes that oncology is always changing, providing opportunities to learn and evolve as new research data and medications become available. She previously was involved in national clinical trials for breast cancer patients and has an active interest in clinical research, having previously authored a clinical trial.
Prior to joining UC San Diego Health, Dr. Sullivan was a medical oncologist with California Cancer Associates for Research & Excellence in Encinitas, Calif. and at Baptist Medical Center in Jacksonville, Fla., where she was a member of the Breast Cancer Leadership Committee for the Baptist MD Anderson Cancer Center.
Dr. Sullivan completed hematology and oncology fellowship training at the University of Florida, Shands Hospital in Gainesville, Fla., where she also completed residency training in internal medicine. She earned her medical degree from Nova Southeastern University College of Osteopathic Medicine in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. Dr. Sullivan is board certified in internal medicine and medical oncology. She is a member of the American Society of Hematology and the American Society of Clinical Oncology.
Outside of the office, Dr. Sullivan enjoys the beach, yoga, nutrition and healthy cooking, and spending time with her husband and children outside in the beautiful San Diego environment.
