About Esmeralda McClean, OD
Esmeralda McClean, OD, is an optometrist with a special interest in acute care and ocular disease. She is a member of the Acute Eye Care Clinic, where she triages and cares for patients with emergency eye-related issues, such as flashes and floaters, sudden loss of vision and eye pain.
Prior to attending optometry school, Dr. McClean was the chief vision screener for the UC San Diego Shiley EyeMobile for children throughout San Diego County. She also participated in the Age-Related Eye Disease Study 2 (AREDS2) monitoring patients with age-related macular degeneration.
Dr. McClean completed her clinical rotations at Alameda County Medical Center, VA Portland Medical Center, VA Central California Healthcare System and Kaiser Hospitals in Sacramento. She earned her medical degree in optometry at UC Berkeley and her bachelor's degree in human biology at UC San Diego. She is a fellow of the American Academy of Optometry and fluent in Spanish.
