About Ravi M. Iyengar, MD (he/him)
Ravi M. Iyengar, MD, is a board-certified endocrinologist who specializes in gender affirming hormone therapy in addition to treating many general endocrine conditions including diabetes (type 1 and type 2), thyroid disorders, parathyroid disorders, adrenal disease and pituitary disorders.
He has worked in his career to reduce healthcare disparities faced by the LGBTQIA+ community, and specifically ensure competent and collaborative care for transgender, nonbinary, and gender diverse individuals. Dr. Iyengar understands gender affirming care is lifesaving care, and seeks to improve access through multi-disciplinary collaboration, education, training and research.
Prior to joining UC San Diego Health, Dr. Iyengar served as medical director of Affirm: The Rush Center for Gender, Sexuality and Reproductive Health at Rush University Medical Center in Chicago, where he also trained medical students as an assistant professor.
Dr. Iyengar completed fellowship training in metabolism, endocrinology and diabetes at University of Michigan Health in Ann Arbor. He completed residency training in internal medicine at University of Chicago NorthShore Health System in Evanston, Ill. where he served as chief resident. He earned his medical degree from Rosalind Franklin University of Medicine and Science in North Chicago, Ill. Dr. Iyengar is board certified in internal medicine and endocrinology, diabetes and metabolism.
He is a member of several professional societies including Endocrine Society, American Association of Clinical Endocrinology (AACE), World Professional Association for Transgender Health (WPATH) and American Medical Association (AMA).
In his free time, Dr. Iyengar enjoys cooking, running and hiking.
