Kristen Kulasa, MD, is a board-certified endocrinologist who specializes in diabetes. Dr. Kulasa serves as director of inpatient glycemic control - working to ensure that people who are in the hospital have optimal blood sugar levels during their stay. She oversees the clinical diabetes nurse educators on staff. Dr. Kulasa does not see patients at outpatient clinics and is not available for appointments.
As an associate professor in the Department of Medicine, Dr. Kulasa's research is focused on evaluating medications for type 2 diabetes and improving inpatient glycemic control practices.
Dr. Kulasa completed her fellowship training in endocrinology and metabolism and her internal medicine residency at UC San Diego School of Medicine. She earned her medical degree from the University of Texas Medical School in San Antonio. She is board in endocrinology, diabetes and metabolism.
Dr. Kulasa serves as an investigator and mentor on the Society of Hospital Medicine's Glycemic Control and Innovative Care Coordination Project, which works to define best practices for integrating non-physician providers into inpatient glycemic control teams and in assisting hospitals with integrating recommendations into clinical practice.
Dr. Kulasa is a member of the American Association of Clinical Endocrinologists and the American College of Endocrinology.
