About Lawrence (Lance) Prince, MD, PhD
Lawrence (Lance) S. Prince, MD, PhD, is a board-certified pediatrician and neonatal-perinatal medicine specialist. Dr. Prince is the Division Chief of Neonatology at the University of California, San Diego and Rady Children's Hospital, San Diego.
He has a particular clinical interest in managing and treating neonatal lung diseases, especially bronchopulmonary dysplasia (BPD) in babies born extremely preterm.
Dr. Prince's research interests include the molecular and cellular mechanisms controlling lung development and the maturation of the fetal and neonatal immune systems. As part of collaborations with other investigators at UC San Diego, Dr. Prince's research team is developing new strategies for preventing lung injury and promoting lung regeneration and growth.
Prior to joining UC San Diego faculty, Dr. Prince was Associate Professor of Pediatrics and Cell and Developmental Biology at Vanderbilt University.
He obtained his residency and fellowship training at the University of Iowa, his MD, PhD degrees from the University of Alabama at Birmingham, and a BS degree in Chemistry from the University of Miami.
