
About Ian Jenkins, MD
Ian Jenkins, MD, is a board-certified internal medicine physician who specializes in caring for hospitalized patients. As a hospitalist, Dr. Jenkins is assigned to patients at the time of admission and provides care only during their hospital stay. He does not see patients at outpatient clinics and is not available for appointments. Upon a patient's discharge, Dr. Jenkins communicates with their regular physician to ensure quality care.
His interests include medical narrative, resident education, and sepsis syndrome. Dr. Jenkins co-directs the pre-internship class for fourth year students at UC San Diego School of Medicine.
Dr. Jenkins has led efforts to improve hospital safety and management of alcohol withdrawal. He participated in the Division of Hospital Medicine's AHRQ and ASHP funded quality improvement projects to improve the prevention and treatment of treatment of venous thromboembolism (VTE) and mentored other hospitals seeking to reduce their VTE and infection rates.
As a professor in the Department of Medicine, he instructs medical students, residents and fellows at UC San Diego School of Medicine.
Dr. Jenkins completed a residency in internal medicine at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston, Mass. He earned his medical degree from the University of Virginia Medical School in Charlottesville, Va. He is board certified in internal medicine.
