About Eustratia Hubbard, MD, FAAP

Eustratia "Tia" Hubbard, MD, FAAP, is a board-certified pediatrician who specializes in the care of newborns. She is medical director of the Newborn Service at UC San Diego Health and director of the newborn medicine section within the Division of Academic General Pediatrics.

As a newborn hospitalist, she provides comprehensive infant care, incorporating current evidence and clinical guidelines. Dr. Hubbard especially enjoys assisting new parents with their transition to parenthood. She focuses on newborn behavior and communication; prevention and management of hypoglycemia; soothing and swaddling; breast milk feeding; care and nutrition of late-preterm infants; the impact of family dynamics; and maternal mental health and cultural diversity in newborn care.

As a professor of pediatrics at UC San Diego School of Medicine, Dr. Hubbard instructs neonatology fellows, pediatric and family medicine residents, and medical students. She also delivers a quarterly lecture on newborn care and provides yearly training to the obstetric interns. Her research areas include quality improvement, care of late-preterm infants and prevention of newborn readmission. She oversees critical congenital heart defect screening and has helped update hospital policy on management of hypoglycemia in newborns in an effort to reduce the need for formula supplementation and neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) admission.

Dr. Hubbard completed a fellowship in developmental-behavioral pediatrics at UC San Diego School of Medicine, where she also completed her pediatric residency and earned her medical degree. She is a fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics (FAAP).

Dr. Hubbard and her husband, a school administrator, have two daughters, who were born at UC San Diego Medical Center in Hillcrest. She enjoys walking, cooking, relaxing at the beach and spending time with her family.
