About Kyle P. Edmonds, MD, FAAHPM

Kyle P. Edmonds, MD, is a board-certified palliative care specialist. Palliative medicine focuses on improving the quality of life for people with serious illness and their families. It can help provide relief from symptoms, pain, and emotional stress. As part of the Doris A. Howell Palliative Care service, Dr. Edmonds consults with patients who have been admitted to UC San Diego Health's hospitals in La Jolla and Hillcrest.

Dr. Edmonds is passionate about educating medical learners and has a background in hospital administration and medical policy. He serves as a quality medical director focusing on advanced illness management and care.

As an assistant professor in the Department of Medicine and Department of Family Medicine and Public Health, Dr. Edmonds instructs medical students, residents, and fellows at UC San Diego School of Medicine. He is also an assistant professor at UC San Diego Skaggs School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences, where he instructs pharmacy students in pain and palliative care.

He is the co-editor-in-chief of the Hospice & Palliative Medicine Focused Assessment and Study Tool, has authored several articles for the Journal of Palliative Medicine, and is frequently invited to present on the topic of palliative care at UC San Diego Health.

Dr. Edmonds completed a fellowship in hospice and palliative medicine at San Diego Hospice and the Institute for Palliative Medicine in San Diego. He completed a residency in family medicine at St. Joseph's Hospital and Medical Center in Phoenix. He earned his medical degree from the University of Arizona College of Medicine in Tucson. Dr. Edmonds is board certified in family medicine and hospice and palliative medicine.

Dr. Edmonds is a fellow of the American Academy of Hospice and Palliative Medicine (FAAHPM) where he is also the co-chair of the Public Policy Committee; he is a delegate to the American Medical Association and a member of the Society of Palliative Care Pharmacy, and the San Diego County Medical Society.
