Samuel Eisenstein, MD, is a colon and rectal surgeon specializing in the treatment of colon and rectal cancer and other intestinal disorders including Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis. He is an expert in the surgical treatment of anorectal disorders such as hemorrhoids, fistulas and fissures.
Dr. Eisenstein is also experienced with therapies for fecal incontinence and was the first colon and rectal surgeon in San Diego County to implant sacral nerve stimulators for this condition.
Dr. Eisenstein performs a variety of minimally invasive surgical procedures including robotic surgery, laparoscopy, single-incision laparoscopy, transanal endoscopic microsurgery (TEMS) and transanal minimally invasive surgery (TAMIS).
Dr. Eisenstein currently serves as the director of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) surgery and has a particular interest in treating and studying Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis. He is currently conducting several clinical trials for the injection of stem cells to treat anal fistula in Crohn's disease.
Dr. Eisenstein also performs outcomes research in new and novel minimally invasive surgery techniques for IBD surgery, and is the founder and organizer of a large collaborative of United States IBD surgical centers that perform outcomes research using the National Surgical Quality Improvement Program.
Dr. Eisenstein completed his fellowship in colorectal surgery and his general surgery residency training at The Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai in New York. He earned his medical degree from Tufts University School of Medicine. Dr. Eisenstein is board-certified in both general surgery and colon and rectal surgery.
He is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons (ACS) and the American Society of Colon and Rectal Surgeons (ASCRS), and is a member of the Society of Gastroenterologic Endoscopic Surgeons (SAGES) and the Crohn's and Colitis Foundation.
