About Laura Haines, MD, FACS
Laura Haines, MD, is board-certified in general surgery and surgical critical care. She cares for patients who have experienced traumatic injuries, such as motor vehicle collisions or falls, or severe burn injuries. She also provides surgical critical care to patients with acute surgical needs, such as the emergency removal of the appendix or gallbladder, or those coping with surgical complications.
Dr. Haines is the medical director of the Surgical Intensive Care Unit at UC San Diego Health where she serves on several committees including the Trauma Multidisciplinary Committee and the Quality Improvement Committee.
An academic surgeon, Dr. Haines' research is focused on clinical outcomes in trauma and general surgery patients. She is an associate professor in the Department of Surgery and program director of the surgical critical care fellowship and the acute care surgery fellowship at UC San Diego School of Medicine, where she trains medical students, residents and fellows.
Dr. Haines is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons (FACS). She is also certified as an instructor in Advanced Trauma Life Support, Advanced Trauma Operative Management and Advanced Surgical Skills for Exposure in Trauma.
She completed her fellowship training in trauma and surgical critical care at UC San Diego School of Medicine. Dr. Haines completed her residency in general surgery and earned her medical degree from Wake Forest School of Medicine in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.
