Chamindra Laverty, MD, is a board-certified neurologist at UC San Diego Health. She provides general neurological care to people with a range of neurologic conditions, with an emphasis on neuromuscular diseases. She sees patients with conditions including, inclusion body myositis, Guillain-Barré syndrome, myasthenia gravis, Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease, periodic paralysis, and all muscular dystrophies.
In addition to her work providing care to adults at UC San Diego Health, Dr. Laverty is a neuromuscular specialist at Rady Children's Hospital.
As an associate professor of neurosciences, Dr. Laverty is involved in training medical students, residents and fellows in neurology. Her research is focused on the diagnosis and treatment of congenital myopathies, congenital muscular dystrophies, and congenital myasthenic syndromes.
Dr. Laverty earned her medical degree from Drexel University College of Medicine in Philadelphia. She completed her residency in neurology and fellowship in neuromuscular medicine at University of California Los Angeles. Before joining UC San Diego Health, she was a neuromuscular specialist with Froedtert Memorial Lutheran Hospital in Milwaukee, and on the neurological faculty of the Medical College of Wisconsin.
She serves on the scientific advisory board of In-Depth Diagnostics, a non-profit organization that provides free genetic testing for patients with genetic neurological disorders.
