Anna (Anya) Narezkina, MD, is a board-certified cardiologist with a specialization in cardio-oncology. Cardio-oncology is a medical field that focuses on treating and preventing heart conditions in patients undergoing cancer treatment.
At UC San Diego Health, Dr. Narezkina serves as the director of the cardio-oncology program. In this role, she works closely with oncologists to address the heart-related needs of patients undergoing various cancer treatments, including chemotherapy, targeted therapy, immunotherapy, radiation therapy, and bone marrow transplantation. Her responsibilities include assessing and planning for any cardiovascular risks before cancer treatment begins, monitoring and managing cardiovascular complications during treatment, and providing long-term follow-up care for cancer survivors to minimize or prevent later complications. Dr. Narezkina also plays a crucial role in diagnosing and preventing heart disease, as well as managing conditions like hypertension, hyperlipidemia, coronary artery disease, heart rhythm abnormalities, and heart failure in cancer patients.
Dr. Narezkina leads clinical trials at UC San Diego focused on finding optimal therapies for cardiovascular complications arising from cancer treatments. She is also engaged in research related to the primary prevention of cardiovascular disease and evaluating the best imaging approaches for evaluating ischemic heart disease. Additionally, her work includes database analysis to evaluate the incidence and risk factors of cardiovascular complications of cancer therapies, including targeted therapies among high-risk populations.
Dr. Narezkina completed cardiology fellowship and internal medicine residency at UC San Diego School of Medicine. She graduated summa cum laude from the Smolensk State Medical Academy in Russia. She is board certified in both internal medicine and cardiovascular disease and holds certification from the National Board of Echocardiography in adult comprehensive echocardiography.
