Abha Singh, MD, is a board-certified rheumatologist. She diagnoses and treats autoimmune conditions as well as diseases of the joints, muscles and bones, including rheumatoid arthritis, psoriatic arthritis, ankylosing spondylitis, reactive arthritis, myositis, scleroderma, systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE or lupus), vasculitis, gout, polymyalgia rheumatica, and osteoarthritis.
Dr. Singh's expertise also includes diagnostic musculoskeletal ultrasound, ultrasound-guided procedures and injections of medications into the joints. She has extensive experience in performing joint and tendon injections with and without the use of ultrasound.
As an associate professor in the Department of Medicine, Dr. Singh teaches medical students, residents and fellows at UC San Diego School of Medicine. Her research focuses on cardiovascular risk in inflammatory rheumatic diseases that cause arthritis, such as lupus and Sjögren's syndrome. She has a special interest in the spondyloarthropathy group of conditions, including ankylosing spondylitis, IBD-associated arthritis, reactive arthritis, and psoriatic arthritis.
Dr. Singh has presented at national and international meetings and has coauthored many abstracts and articles. Her work has appeared in Arthritis Care and Research and Rheumatology, among others. She is also a reviewer for several medical journals and is on the editorial board of World Journal of Rheumatology.
Prior to joining UC San Diego Health, Dr. Singh cared for patients in the Division of Hospital Internal Medicine at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota.
She completed a fellowship in rheumatology at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota, and a residency in internal medicine at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics. She earned her medical degree from All India Institute of Medical Sciences in New Delhi, India. She is also certified for the practice of musculoskeletal ultrasound in rheumatology (RhMSUS) by the American College of Rheumatology.
