About Sarah Merrill, MD

Sarah Merrill, MD, is a board-certified family medicine doctor who specializes in sports medicine. In addition to diagnosing and treating injuries associated with athletics, Dr. Merrill provides primary care for patients of all ages, including preventive care and treatment of acute and chronic diseases. She also has a special interest in rehabilitating individuals with yoga injuries, as well as performing ultrasound guided diagnostics and procedures.

As an assistant professor in the Department of Family Medicine and Public Health, Dr. Merrill instructs students, residents and fellows at UC San Diego School of Medicine. Dr. Merrill has provided care throughout the San Diego community and for many sporting events. She is an associate team physician for the San Diego Seals professional indoor lacrosse team, a team physician for the UC San Diego Tritons, and has also served as team physician for University City High School's and Scripps Ranch High School's football teams, medical director for California State Games, medical team captain for San Diego Rock and Roll Marathon, and event physician for BMX World Championships.

Dr. Merrill completed a sports medicine fellowship at UC San Diego School of Medicine, where she also completed a residency in family medicine with an additional certification in integrative medicine. She earned her medical degree from Loyola University Chicago Stritch School of Medicine. Dr. Merrill is board certified in family medicine and sports medicine.

She is a member of numerous professional associations, including the American Medical Society for Sports Medicine, the American Academy of Family Physicians and the American Medical Association.

When she is not caring for her patients, Dr. Merrill enjoys traveling and volunteering with young adults and athletes in underserved populations. She is also an avid yoga practitioner and certified yoga instructor.
