About Katherine J. Bangen, PhD

Katherine Bangen, PhD, is a licensed clinical psychologist who treats older adults with neurological and psychiatric disorders. Her expertise is in conducting clinical neuropsychological evaluations that can help identify root causes of neurological or cognitive problems.

An assistant professor in the Department of Psychiatry, she applies brain imaging and neuropsychological tools to study cognitive and brain changes with normal aging, mild cognitive impairment and dementia, such as Alzheimer's disease. She is also involved in training clinical psychology graduate and medical students at UC San Diego School of Medicine.

Dr. Bangen completed a postdoctoral fellowship in geriatric mental health at UC San Diego School of Medicine, as well as a fellowship in traumatic brain injury and cognitive rehabilitation at the VA San Diego Healthcare System. She completed a clinical internship in neuropsychology at the Semel Institute for Neuroscience and Human Behavior at UCLA and earned her doctorate in clinical psychology, with an emphasis in neuropsychology, from the San Diego State University/UC San Diego Joint Doctoral Program.
