About Jacqueline Upton, MS, ATC, PA-C
Jackie Upton, MS, is a certified physician assistant (PA-C) and certified athletic trainer (ATC) who cares for patients with orthopedic sports injuries. She is part of the multidisciplinary team that provides state-of-the-art care to athletes of all ages. Her areas of expertise include evaluating and treating acute and chronic sports injuries, as well as orchestrating pre and postoperative patient care. She also provides support to the Sports Medicine Program at UC San Diego Health, where she assists in the care of high school and collegiate athletes.
Prior to joining UC San Diego Health, Ms. Upton worked at The Steadman Clinic in Vail, Colorado and most recently, at a local private orthopedic practice in San Diego. At both clinics she broadened her clinical examination and surgical skills to provide exceptional patient care both in clinic and the operating room.
Ms. Upton earned a master's degree in athletic training from University of Pittsburgh School of Health and Rehabilitation Sciences. She then worked as a certified athletic trainer for 10 years before returning to school to obtain a master's degree in physician assistant studies at Rosalind Franklin University of Medicine and Science in North Chicago, Illinois. Ms. Upton is certified by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA) and also maintains her certification from the Board of Certification For The Athletic Trainer.
Outside of work, Ms. Upton enjoys skiing, taking and teaching yoga, live music and cheering on her alma mater, the North Carolina Tar Heels.
