Kurt Hoffmayer, MD, PharmD, is a board-certified cardiologist who specializes in in cardiac electrophysiology. He cares for patients with all types of heart rhythm disorders and is interested in both medical and procedural management of atrial fibrillation, atrial flutter, supraventricular tachycardia, and ventricular tachycardia.
Dr. Hoffmayer focuses on complex ablation including atrial fibrillation, premature ventricular contractions (PVC) and ventricular tachycardia, including epicardial ventricular tachycardia ablation. He also is specially trained in implantation and management of implantable loop recorders, pacemakers, implantable cardioverter-defibrillators (ICD), and cardiac resynchronization therapy devices.
As an assistant professor in the Department of Medicine, Dr. Hoffmayer conducts research on the electrophysiologic mechanisms and pathophysiology of atrial and ventricular arrhythmias, novel mapping and ablation techniques of ventricular tachycardia, safety and efficacy of antiarrhythmic therapy, body surface mapping and electrocardiographic imaging (ECGI), and cardiac resynchronization therapy. His research has been published in many peer-reviewed journals, including Circulation, Journal of the American College of Cardiology, Heart Rhythm, and Circulation: Arrhythmia Electrophysiology.
Prior to joining UC San Diego Health, Dr. Hoffmayer was a faculty member specializing in electrophysiology at the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health. Dr. Hoffmayer completed fellowships in electrophysiology and cardiovascular medicine at UC San Francisco, where he also did a residency in internal medicine. He earned his medical degree at Temple University School of Medicine in Philadelphia, and a doctoral degree in pharmacy at Temple University School of Pharmacy. Dr. Hoffmayer is board certified in internal medicine, clinical cardiac electrophysiology and cardiovascular disease. He is a fellow of the American College of Cardiology (FACC) and the Heart Rhythm Society (FHRS).
