About Joseph A. Abdelmalek, MD
Joseph Abdelmalek, MD, is a board-certified nephrologist who cares for patients with acute kidney injury, chronic kidney disease and end-stage renal disease. He also has expertise in treating electrolyte disorders.
Dr. Abdelmalek has presented on clinical research that focuses on home-based, Bluetooth-enabled blood pressure monitoring device among veterans with chronic kidney disease, as well as coronary artery calcifications among hemodialysis patients. His work has been published in peer-reviewed medical journals, including the American Journal of Kidney Diseases.
He completed his fellowship in nephrology at UC San Diego School of Medicine, where he also completed residency training in internal medicine. Dr. Abdelmalek earned his medical degree from University of Cincinnati College of Medicine. He is board certified in internal medicine and nephrology.
Dr. Abdelmalek is a member of several medical organizations, including the American Society of Nephrology, the National Kidney Foundation, and the VA San Diego Medication Safety Committee.
Outside of work, he enjoys reading and learning about religion, technology, and playing basketball.
