About Mohammad Eghtedari, MD, PhD

Mohammad Eghtedari, MD, PhD, is a board-certified diagnostic radiologist who specializes in imaging and managing the most challenging cases of breast cancer, including recurrent breast cancer.

He is skilled and familiar with all forms of diagnostic imaging, including mammography, ultrasound, MRI, and breast-specific gamma imaging (BSGI). He also performs a variety of procedures related to breast health, including biopsies and pre-operative localizations.

His research focuses on improving early detection and screening of breast cancer; the development of contrast-enhanced ultrasound; optical and laser imaging, and backscatter imaging.

Dr. Eghtedari is the recipient of multiple awards and grants, and the author of several peer-reviewed articles. He has presented his expert view on breast cancer screening policies to multiple professional groups, including the American Bar Association.

Prior to joining UC San Diego Health in 2015, he was an assistant professor of radiology at The University of Texas MD Anderson in Houston.

He completed a fellowship in breast imaging at MD Anderson and a residency in diagnostic radiology at UC San Diego School of Medicine. Dr. Eghtedari holds a doctorate in biomedical engineering from the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston, Texas. His doctoral research focused on improving early detection of breast cancer, using nanoparticle-based contrast agents, laser imaging and ultrasound. He earned his medical degree from Shiraz University of Medical Sciences in Iran. He is board certified in diagnostic radiology.

He is a member of the Radiological Society of North America, the Society of Breast Imaging, and the American Roentgen Ray Society.

In his spare time, Dr. Eghtedari enjoys electronic circuit design using microcontrollers, computer programming, and flying single engine airplanes. He has a private pilot's license.
