About Erin H. Walsh, MA, CCC-SLP, IBCLC, BCS-S
Erin Walsh is a speech-language pathologist, singing voice specialist and lactation consultant. She has clinical expertise in managing a wide variety of voice disorders and newborn feeding difficulties, and a special interest in rehabilitating performers and professional voice users.
She is a part of the voice, swallowing and airway team within Head and Neck Surgery at UC San Diego Health. Walsh conducts lectures throughout the community on vocal health and collaborates with faculty of university music departments on laryngeal injury prevention. She enjoys the collaborative nature of her work at UC San Diego. Walsh is among a multi-disciplinary team developing a neonatal suckling device to improve breastfeeding outcomes. She also works with the gastrointestinal motility team creating novel integrative approaches for swallowing disorders.
Prior to joining UC San Diego Health, Walsh was a speech-language pathologist and clinical voice specialist for 12 years at the Center for Voice, Swallowing and Motility Disorders at Scripps Memorial Hospital La Jolla, where she also established an outpatient infant feeding disorders clinic.
Walsh earned a master's degree in speech-language pathology from San Diego State University, and a bachelor's degree in vocal performance from The University of Kansas. She studied lactation at University of California, Los Angeles and at University of California, San Diego.
Walsh holds a certificate of clinical competency in speech-language pathology (CCC-SLP) from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) and is a board-certified lactation consultant (IBCLC). She is also a board-certified specialist in swallowing and swallowing disorders (BCS-S).
Since 2006, Walsh has served as an ASHA continuing education administrator. She is an instructor of transnasal and transoral endoscopy for speech-language pathologists and teaches courses on how to manage complex voice disorders.
In 2012, she received an outstanding achievement award from the California Speech-Language-Hearing Association.
Walsh has a background in professional singing. Outside of work, she enjoys spending time with her husband and two children.
