About Rina S. Edi, MD

Rina Edi, MD, is board-certified family medicine physician dedicated to practicing the full breadth of primary care and caring for patients of all ages, including infants, children, adults and seniors. She is skilled in chronic disease management while also focused on preventive medicine and helping patients strive for their best health.

Dr. Edi's expertise is in providing well women care such as contraception, including intrauterine devices (IUDs) and birth control implants, as well as performing endometrial biopsies and colposcopy for abnormal Pap test results.

As a primary care physician at an academic medical center, Dr. Edi instructs medical students, residents and physicians in training at UC San Diego School of Medicine. She is the co-author of a study that looked at increasing physicians' documentation and assessment of obesity and dietary counseling, which was published in Family Medicine.

Dr. Edi also serves as the medical director of the California Smokers' Helpline and the outpatient smoking cessation champion at UC San Diego Health.

Prior to joining UC San Diego Health, Dr. Edi cared for patients at Crozer-Keystone Health System in Upper Darby, Pa. While there, she also trained medical students and residents in the Philadelphia area.

Dr. Edi completed a residency in family and community medicine at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital. She earned her medical degree from Temple University School of Medicine and is board-certified in family medicine. She is a member of the American Academy of Family Physicians.

Outside of work, Dr. Edi enjoys exploring San Diego, hiking, and trying new restaurants. She is conversant in Indonesian and Spanish.
