Richard Parker, DO

Richard Parker, DO, is a board-certified physician providing primary care through the San Diego Sports Medicine & Family Health Center. He is a member of UC San Diego Health Physician Network.

UC San Diego Health Physician Network is an alliance of health care providers based in San Diego, Riverside and Imperial counties. Members of the network collaborate on developing shared systems, infrastructure and quality initiatives to provide high-value health care in the region.

As a primary care physician with an emphasis in sports medicine, Dr. Parker provides preventive care and treatment of acute and chronic diseases and injuries for people of all ages. Dr. Parker's expertise is in the treatment of injuries and conditions associated with athletic activity.

Dr. Parker is a team physician for San Diego State University Athletics, and attending physician for the San Diego Hydroplane Regatta - both longstanding positions. He served as team physician in the past for countless athletic teams including for U.S. Olympic teams, America's Cup Challenge participants, San Diego Chargers, San Diego Sockers, and San Diego Gulls.

He is the president of San Diego Sports Medicine & Family Health Center and medical director of the practice's executive health & corporate wellness program. He is also medical director of the San Diego Regional Firefighters wellness program.

He was honored as a top doctor in San Diego Magazine's "Physicians of Exceptional Excellence" annual survey performed in collaboration with the San Diego County Medical Society.

Dr. Parker has been involved in clinical research evaluating new therapies for type 2 diabetes, hypertension, osteoarthritis, migraines, and other acute and chronic conditions.

Dedicated to training new medical professionals in sports medicine, he directs the sports medicine fellowship program at San Diego Sports Medicine & Family Health Center.

Dr. Parker earned his medical degree at Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine in Kirksville, Missouri. He is board certified in family medicine with a subspecialty in sports medicine. He is a fellow of the American Osteopathic Academy of Sports Medicine.
