About Vincent T. Genna, MSN, FNP-BC

Vincent Genna, MSN, is a board-certified family nurse practitioner (FNP-BC) who specializes in providing care for comprehensive breast health, which includes surgical interventions for breast cancer, evaluation and planning for patients who are at high risk for malignancies, and diagnosis and management of benign breast disease. He performs diagnosis, surgical planning, long-term follow up visits, risk reduction for prevention, and postoperative evaluations.

Mr. Genna's expertise includes assessing and caring for individuals with all types of breast malignancy. His clinical interests include treating women diagnosed with breast cancer at a young age, offering novel therapies through breast cancer clinical trials, and planning for advanced surgical management of breast disease and breast reconstruction with physician colleagues.

He performs complete examinations, biopsies and minor procedures in the clinic, along with collaborating with radiology, medical oncology, and radiation oncology.

Mr. Genna leads UC San Diego Health's benign breast disease practice, which includes assessing people with all benign types of breast disease and recommending treatment. He also works with women who have a higher than normal risk of breast disease because of family history, multiple biopsies, or a history of certain types of benign breast diseases. In this role, he coordinates with our physicians, surgeons and genetic counselors to develop individualized plans for prevention and screening.

As a nurse practitioner at an academic medical center, Mr. Genna mentors and provides educational support to the medical students, residents and nurse practitioner students. He also participates in weekly, multidisciplinary tumor board meetings where patient cases are discussed and plan of care is developed from a multi-disciplinary approach.

Mr. Genna earned a master's of science degree in nursing from the University of San Diego, Hahn School of Nursing and Health Science. He obtained a bachelor's degree in psychology from UC Riverside. He is a member of the California Association of Nurse Practitioners.

He has trained extensively with UC San Diego Health's Comprehensive Breast Health Center's director, Dr. Anne Wallace. In 2013, Vincent was a recipient of the Medal of Excellence Award from the Moores Cancer Center at UC San Diego Health. In 2012 he also received the "Caring" award from UC San Diego's Department of Surgery.

Outside of work, he enjoys spending time with his wife and their two daughters, gourmet cooking, traveling, and exploring San Diego's many offerings. He is also a sports enthusiast and loves soccer, football and baseball, and carries on his grandfather's Italian tradition in making homemade wine.

San Diego's only Comprehensive Cancer Center

As a NCI-designated Comprehensive Cancer Center, we hold the highest possible rating for a U.S. cancer center. This designation is reserved for centers with experts in every medical subspecialty, pushing boundaries to improve approaches for preventing, diagnosing and treating cancers. In simple terms, these federally recognized centers save lives. Studies repeatedly show that patients seen at NCI-designated Comprehensive Cancer Centers do better, on average.
