About William H. Parker, MD

William Parker, MD, is a board-certified obstetrician/gynecologist who specializes in the evaluation and treatment of women with uterine fibroids. He is an internationally known surgeon for myomectomy (removal of fibroids) using minimally-invasive (laparoscopic) surgery or through open abdominal incisions.

Dr. Parker is a frequent lecturer and teacher of advanced surgical techniques in the United States and abroad. As a professor in the Department of Obstetrics, Gynecology, and Reproductive Sciences, he also instructs residents and fellows at UC San Diego School of Medicine. His research interests include fibroids, minimally-invasive gynecologic surgery and ovarian preservation.

He has published over 75 articles in the areas of laparoscopic myomectomy, abdominal myomectomy, laparoscopic hysterectomy, ovarian cyst surgery, ovarian conservation and the care and treatment of women with fibroids. Dr. Parker is also the author of the best-selling woman's health book, A Gynecologist's Second Opinion: the Questions and Answers You Need to Take Charge of Your Health.

Prior to joining UC San Diego, Dr. Parker was the director of minimally-invasive gynecologic surgery at UCLA Medical Center in Santa Monica, Calif. and also served as a professor at the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA, where he was a recipient of several teaching awards.

Dr. Parker completed a residency in obstetrics and gynecology at UC San Diego School of Medicine and earned his medical degree at SUNY Downstate Medical Center in Brooklyn. He is board certified in obstetrics and gynecology.

Dr. Parker is a member of the editorial board for the Journal of Minimally Invasive Gynecology and serves on the advisory board of the American Association of Gynecologic Laparoscopists (AAGL). He is a past president of the AAGL. Dr. Parker has been honored on both the Best Doctors in America and America's Top Doctor® lists for over 20 consecutive years.
