Maureen C. Ries, MD

Maureen Ries, MD, is a board-certified obstetrician/gynecologist who provides a wide spectrum of care for women, including prenatal and childbirth care. She provides well-woman care, including health care maintenance and contraception. In addition, she has interests in vulvar skin disorders and general gynecologic surgery.
As an assistant professor in the Department of Obstetrics, Gynecology, and Reproductive Sciences, Dr. Ries instructs medical students and residents at UC San Diego School of Medicine. She has been published in peer-reviewed journals, written a chapter on acute pelvic pain for the textbook ObGyn Hospitalist Medicine: Principles and Practice, and presented at numerous conferences and symposiums.
She previously served as an assistant professor in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at UC Irvine School of Medicine. Prior to this, Dr. Ries lived in east Africa and trained doctors and nurses through the Global Health Service Partnership.
Dr. Ries completed a residency in obstetrics and gynecology at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center in Columbus. She was a fellow in global clinical education at Massachusetts General Hospital and earned her medical degree from UC San Diego School of Medicine. She is board certified in obstetrics and gynecology.
Dr. Ries has an interest in global women's health and serves as director of obstetrics and gynecology for Seed Global Health, a non-profit organization that helps provide nursing and medical training support in resource-limited countries. She also serves on the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists' Global Health Committee and has taught and provided obstetric care in numerous countries.
In addition to English, she speaks Spanish, Indonesian and Swahili.
