About Jaspreet Somal, MBBS, FRCA
Jaspreet Somal, MBBS, FRCA, is a board-certified anesthesiologist with subspecialty training in critical care and neurosurgical anesthesia.
He oversees anesthesia care for UC San Diego Health's acoustic neuroma program.
Dr. Somal is dedicated to providing the best, evidence-based perioperative care to patients undergoing surgery to treat acoustic neuroma, also called vestibular schwannoma.
He is familiar and skilled with the most recent techniques and medicines related to anesthesia and pain management for neurosurgery. He uses multimodal approaches to minimize the use of opioids during surgery -- to minimize post-operative nausea, vomiting and pain.
An assistant professor in the Department of Anesthesia, Dr. Somal is involved with training medical students, residents and fellows at UC San Diego School of Medicine. He conducts research to improve anesthesia for patients undergoing neurosurgery procedures. He is also interested in developing novel anesthesia regimens that do not rely on opioids.
Dr. Somal is a fellow of the Royal College of Anaesthetists (FRCA) in the United Kingdom, and has extensive international experience in anesthesia for neurological surgeries.
He completed fellowship and residency training in anesthesia for neurological surgery at the Cleveland Clinic. He earned his medical degree from Dayanand Medical College and Hospital in India.
