About David J. Dalstrom, MD
David Dalstrom, MD, is a board-certified orthopedic surgeon who specializes in treating traumatic injuries, degenerative conditions and sports injuries of the foot and ankle.
He performs ankle reconstructions, ankle joint replacements (ankle arthroplasty) and treats Achilles tendon injuries, bunions and other foot and ankle conditions.
He lectures on a variety of topics related to foot and ankle conditions, including ankle fracture, syndesmotic ligament injuries, modern Achilles tendon repair, and lateral ankle instability.
Prior to joining UC San Diego Health in 2018, he was chair of the Department of Surgery and recent past chief of orthopaedic surgery at Scripps Memorial Hospital in La Jolla.
Dr. Dalstrom is a fellow of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, a member of the Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society, and a board member for the Unite Orthopaedic Foundation.
He completed two fellowships in orthopedics. He was a fellow in foot and ankle conditions at University of Washington School of Medicine, Harborview Medical Center in Seattle and a fellow in orthopedic trauma at Wright State University School of Medicine, Miami Valley Hospital in Dayton, Ohio. Dr. Dalstrom completed a residency in orthopedics also at Wright State University School of Medicine, where he served as chief resident. He earned his medical degree from The Ohio State University College of Medicine. Dr. Dalstrom is board certified in general orthopaedics.
Outside of work, he enjoys mountain biking, trail running, hiking, snowboarding and skiing. He has completed two Ironman triathlons, a 50-kilometer trail run and five marathons.
