About Bernie Y. Sunwoo, MBBS
Bernie Sunwoo, MBBS, is a board-certified pulmonologist and sleep medicine specialist who treats people with general lung conditions as well as rare lung diseases, sleep-related breathing disorders and hypoventilation syndromes.
Dr. Sunwoo serves as medical director of the Sleep Medicine Center at UC San Diego Health, where she oversees clinic operations, including sleep studies performed at UCSD. She also provides pulmonary consultations to those staying at Jacobs Medical Center.
As an associate professor in the Department of Medicine, Dr. Sunwoo instructs medical students, residents and fellows at UC San Diego School of Medicine. She speaks and presents at medical conferences nationally and internationally, and serves as a section editor and continuing medical education editor for Annals of the American Thoracic Society.
Previously, Dr. Sunwoo was an assistant professor at UC San Francisco and assistant professor at the Perelman School of Medicine, University of Pennsylvania.
Dr. Sunwoo completed fellowships in pulmonary and critical care medicine, as well as sleep medicine, at the University of Pennsylvania's Perelman School of Medicine. She did a residency in internal medicine at the University of Massachusetts Medical School. Dr. Sunwoo earned her medical degree with highest honors from the University of New South Wales in Australia. She is board certified in internal medicine, pulmonary disease, critical care medicine, and sleep medicine.
She is a member of the American Academy of Sleep Medicine, the American Thoracic Society, and the California Thoracic Society.
