Kathryn Winters, MD is a palliative care physician whose medical care aims to optimize quality of life for people with life-limiting and chronic illness. She provides pain and symptom management alongside an interdisciplinary team. Together, they work to address the medical, psychological, social and spiritual needs of patients. Another important part of Dr. Winters' work is assisting patients and their loved ones with discussions about advance care planning, goals and values.
Dr. Winters cares for patients in the Jacobs Medical Center, Hillcrest Medical Center, the Encinitas Multi-Specialty outpatient clinic and through video visits.
Dr. Winters is an associate professor in the Department of Medicine where she instructs medical students, residents and fellows at UC San Diego School of Medicine. Additionally, she holds an appointment as an academic community director at the School of Medicine where she advises and mentors students across the entirety of their medical school career.
Dr. Winters completed a fellowship in hospice and palliative medicine at UC San Diego and Scripps Health. She completed her residency training in internal medicine at Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center in Baltimore. Dr. Winters earned her medical degree from UC San Diego School of Medicine. She is a member of the American Medical Association and the American Association of Hospice and Palliative Medicine.
