Jennifer S. Kim, MSN, is a board-certified adult nurse practitioner (ANP-BC) who specializes in providing palliative care for people with heart failure and other chronic diseases. Palliative medicine focuses on improving the quality of life for patients with serious illnesses and their families.
As part of the palliative care team, Jennifer helps develop a plan of care for pain and symptom management, as well as strategies to relieve physical or emotional stress. She serves as an educator and resource to patients and their families, and provides a high level of compassion and comfort.
As a nurse practitioner at an academic medical center, Jennifer educates fellows, house staff, registered nurses and pharmacists on topics such as the role of palliative care in heart failure and end-of-life symptom management.
Prior to joining UC San Diego Health's palliative care team in 2014, Jennifer cared for patients through the palliative care service at Scripps Mercy Hospital and at San Diego Hospice and The Institute for Palliative Medicine. Before she became an adult nurse practitioner, she worked as a registered nurse in UC San Diego Health's bone marrow transplant unit.
Jennifer earned a master's degree in nursing from University of San Diego Hahn School of Nursing and Health Science and a bachelor's degree in biology from Emory University in Atlanta. She is an advanced certified hospice and palliative nurse (ACHPN).
Outside of work, she enjoys traveling, spending time in nature and the ocean, and being with friends and family.
