Katherine Nguyen, MD, is a board-certified rheumatologist who treats general rheumatology conditions, with a special focus on treating the autoimmune diseases Sjögren's syndrome and rheumatoid arthritis (RA).
Dr. Nguyen has repeatedly been named a top doctor in San Diego Magazine's "Physicians of Exceptional Excellence" annual survey, performed in collaboration with the San Diego County Medical Society.
Prior to joining UC San Diego Health in 2018, she was in private practice in San Diego for more than 17 years. She was also chief of the rheumatology teaching program at Scripps Mercy Hospital in San Diego and has worked as a rheumatologist at Kaiser Permanente.
Dr. Nguyen completed fellowship training in rheumatology and residency training in internal medicine at UC San Diego School of Medicine. She also earned her medical degree from UC San Diego School of Medicine. She is a fellow of the American College of Rheumatology.
Outside of work, Dr. Nguyen enjoys gardening and hiking. She has also been very active with community service. She was previously named a "Health Hero" by Combined Health Agencies and has received multiple awards by the Arthritis Foundation for her volunteer services.
