About Srila Gopal, MBBS
Srila Gopal, MBBS, is a board-certified hematologist who specializes in treating patients with blood disorders. She has a particular focus on hemoglobinopathies, including sickle cell disease, thalassemia, other anemias, and bleeding, clotting and white blood cell disorders. Dr. Gopal leads UC San Diego Health's adult sickle cell disease program.
Dr. Gopal is a translational researcher, and her research includes understanding the molecular basis of hemophilic joint disease with the goal of devising novel and improved therapeutic strategies. Dr. Gopal's work has been published in several peer-reviewed journals.
Dr. Gopal completed an advanced fellowship in hemostasis and thrombosis at UC San Diego School of Medicine and a fellowship in hematology and oncology at Tufts Medical Center (Tufts University School of Medicine). She did her residency training in internal medicine at University of Connecticut. She also was a fellow under the auspices of the National Institutes of Health, which included a year of mentored clinical research training in Vellore, India. She earned her medical degree (MBBS) from Christian Medical College in India. She is board certified in internal medicine and hematology.
In addition to English, Dr. Gopal speaks Tamil and Hindi.
