Anastasie Dunn-Pirio, MD, is a board-certified neurologist who treats patients with general neurology disorders, as well as multiple sclerosis and other neuroimmunological disorders. She is also interested in the neurologic complications of cancer and cancer therapy.
Dr. Dunn-Pirio recently published papers on a rare demyelinating disorder -- when the protective covering, or myelin sheath, that surrounds nerve fibers in the brain, optic nerves and spinal cord is damaged -- and neurologic complications of some cancer drugs.
She completed fellowships in both neuro-oncology and neuroimmunology at Duke University Medical Center in Durham, NC, where she also did her residency in neurology. Dr. Dunn-Pirio earned her medical degree from University of Virginia School of Medicine in Charlottesville and obtained a master's degree in biophysics and biology from Georgetown University. She is board certified in neurology, and holds certification in neuro-oncology from the United Council for Neurologic Subspecialties.
She is a member of the American Academy of Neurology, the Society for Neuro-Oncology and the Consortium of Multiple Sclerosis Centers.
Outside of work, Dr. Dunn-Pirio enjoys cooking, hiking and spending time with her family, which includes her golden retriever.
