About Tyler Woodell, MD

Tyler Woodell, MD, is a board-certified nephrologist who treats people with kidney disease, ranging from acute kidney injury to chronic kidney disease and end-stage kidney disease. He has a special interest in treating patients with glomerular disease, which includes conditions such as lupus nephritis, IgA nephropathy and various causes of nephrotic syndrome. He also treats patients with hypertension, electrolyte and acid-base disorders.

As an assistant professor in the Division of Nephrology-Hypertension, Dr. Woodell trains medical students, residents and fellows at UC San Diego School of Medicine. He also serves as director of community dialysis outreach.

Dr. Woodell completed his fellowship training in nephrology at Oregon Health and Sciences University in Portland, where he also earned a Master's of Clinical Research. He did his residency in internal medicine at UC San Diego School of Medicine. Dr. Woodell earned his medical degree from University of Washington School of Medicine. He is board certified in internal medicine and nephrology.

He is a member of the American Board of Internal Medicine, American Society of Nephrology and National Kidney Foundation.

Outside of work, Dr. Woodell likes to try new restaurants and develop his home cooking skills. He also enjoys exercise and baseball.
