Etienne Macedo, MD, PhD, is a nephrologist who diagnoses and treats patients with kidney disease, including renal failure, kidney stones and high blood pressure.
As an assistant professor in the Department of Medicine's Division of Nephrology-Hypertension, Dr. Macedo trains medical students, residents and fellows at UC San Diego School of Medicine. Dr. Macedo has authored numerous book chapters and is extensively published. Her work has appeared in Kidney International, The Lancet, and Nature Review Nephrology, among others. She is frequently invited to speak at medical conferences both nationally and abroad.
Dr. Macedo completed a fellowship in nephrology research at UC San Diego School of Medicine, where she also earned a Master of Science degree in clinical research. She earned her medical degree and a PhD in nephrology from University of Sao Paulo in Brazil, where she also did a fellowship in nephrology and residency in internal medicine.
Dr. Macedo is a fellow of the American Society of Nephrology (FASN), and member of the Brazilian Society of Nephrology and the International Society of Nephrology Commission on Acute Kidney Disease.
In addition to English, she is fluent in Brazilian Portuguese and is conversant in Spanish.
