Betul Gundogdu, MD, is a board-certified neurologist who cares for patients with neuromuscular disorders such as ALS (amyotrophic lateral sclerosis or Lou Gehrig's disease), myasthenia gravis, inflammatory neuropathies and muscular dystrophies. She serves as director of electromyography (EMG) laboratory and electrodiagnostic services at UC San Diego Health.
Her research interests include ALS translational research, advanced techniques in electrophysiology as well as treatment of autoimmune neuromuscular disorders.
Prior to joining UC San Diego Health, Dr. Gundogdu was an associate professor in the Department of Neurology at University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences in Little Rock. She also was chief of neurology at Central Arkansas Veterans Hospital.
Dr. Gundogdu completed subspecialty training in neuromuscular diseases/nerve pathology at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, and at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minn. She also did a fellowship in EMG/clinical neurophysiology at University of Chicago Hospitals, where she completed a residency in neurology.
In addition, Dr. Gundogdu earned her medical degree from Istanbul University School of Medicine. She is board certified in neurology as well as electrodiagnostic medicine, and holds certification from the United Council for Neurologic Subspecialties in clinical neuromuscular pathology
Outside of work, Dr. Gundogdu enjoys being outdoors with family, biking and gardening.
