About Carie Montesa, MSN, RN, AGACNP-BC
Carie Montesa, MSN, is a board-certified adult gerontology acute-care nurse practitioner (AGACNP-BC) who sees individuals with head and neck cancer. She delivers survivorship care for people at all stages of the cancer journey. Her practice includes monitoring patients for cancer recurrence, educating patients on cancer prevention and promoting a healthy lifestyle through nutrition and exercise.
As a trained tobacco treatment specialist, she also offers counseling and medications to help people quit smoking. In addition, she helps patients manage the potential side-effects of cancer treatment and provides resources to ensure patients are receiving the best care possible after cancer treatment.
Ms. Montesa has dedicated her career to caring for oncology patients. Her experience and passion in this field have allowed her to empower cancer survivors to advocate for their own health care needs.
Ms. Montesa is a four-time recipient of the Patrons of Nursing Scholarship and in 2017, she was named UC San Diego Nurse Leader of the Year for structural empowerment.
She earned her master of science in nursing from the University of Southern Indiana. She obtained her bachelor of science in nursing from University of Illinois in Chicago.
She is an active member of the American Head and Neck Society and the American Society of Clinical Oncology.
Outside of work, she enjoys traveling, hiking, wine tasting, and spending time with her husband and two sons.
