About Kelly M. Phillips, MSN, WHNP-BC, IBCLC
Kelly Phillips, MSN, is a board-certified women's health nurse practitioner (WHNP-BC) and lactation consultant. She provides routine prenatal and postnatal care, well woman exams, comprehensive gynecological care and family planning services. She often sees individuals with gynecologic conditions such as vaginitis, abnormal pap smears, pelvic pain, and pain during menstruation (dysmenorrhea).
As a lactation consultant, Ms. Phillips also helps mothers with breastfeeding their baby. She prepares women for successful nursing and can assist mothers who experience breastfeeding problems, such as latching difficulties, painful nursing and low milk production.
Ms. Phillips enjoys being part of a collaborative team that emphasizes patient-centered care, and finds it most rewarding to help women increase their wellness and health outcomes. Prior to joining UC San Diego Health, Ms. Phillips was a site manager and nurse practitioner at Adventist Health's rural health care clinic in Hanford, Calif. She has also worked as a perinatal nurse educator at the United States Naval Hospital in Okinawa, Japan.
Ms. Phillips earned her master's degree in nursing from Frontier School of Midwifery and Family Nursing (now Frontier Nursing University) in Hyden, Ky., and earned her bachelor's degree in nursing from Florida Hospital College of Health Sciences (now AdventHealth University of Health Sciences) in Orlando.
She is a member of the National Association of Nurse Practitioners in Women's Health and the International Lactation Consultant Association.
Outside of work, Ms. Phillips enjoys hiking, cooking and spending time with family.
