About Jessica A. Hughes, PhD
Jessica Hughes, PhD, is a licensed clinical psychologist who specializes in couples, individual and group therapy. Her practice emphasizes evidence-based treatments, including integrative behavioral couples therapy (IBCT) and emotion focused therapy (EFT). She also conducts psychological assessments.
Her practice aims to increase people's insights into themselves and others, and to empower people to improve their daily life functioning and quality of life by knowing more about themselves. She also treats anxiety disorders, depression, PTSD, as well as issues pertaining to acculturation and diversity.
Dr. Hughes values working with diverse patient populations with a wide range of experiences, co-occurring conditions and symptom severities. As a fluent Spanish-speaker, she also provides therapy in Spanish.
Prior to joining UC San Diego Health, she was a clinical psychologist at a community mental health center in San Diego, where she worked with Latino and Hispanic communities.
Dr. Hughes completed a postdoctoral fellowship at the VA San Diego Healthcare System. She earned her doctorate in clinical psychology from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville.
She is a member of the American Psychological Association, the International Center for Excellence in Emotionally Focused Therapy, and the Association for Behavioral and Cognitive Therapies.
Outside of work, she enjoys hiking, mindfulness, exploring Balboa Park, the San Diego Zoo and all that San Diego has to offer.
