About Michele Kowalski-McGraw, MD, MPH

Michele Kowalski-McGraw, MD, MPH, is a board-certified occupational medicine physician. Her expertise is in restoring and maintaining the health of diverse working populations, including those in healthcare, service, manufacturing, distribution and technology.

She is also board-certified in family medicine, and believes in focusing on prevention with an integrated and coordinated approach to management of illness and injury to promote function and well-being. Through her practice in occupational medicine, she studies how environmental factors shape health and customizes solutions to promote wellness.

Her expertise includes treatment and management of work-related injuries, medical surveillance/hazardous materials (hazmat) exams, physical exams, hearing conservation evaluation, drug screen result verification, and commercial driver evaluation. She holds certifications as a Medical Review Officer, U.S. Department of Transportation, as a medical examiner, and in travel medicine.

Before joining UC San Diego Health, Dr. Kowalski-McGraw was the system medical director of Occupational Medicine/Employee Health at Geisinger Health. She was also associate medical director of Occupational Medicine at Lehigh Valley Health and adjunct professor, Department of Clinical Sciences at Geisinger Commonwealth School of Medicine.

Dr. Kowalski-McGraw completed her residency in occupational and environmental medicine at the University of Pennsylvania and in family medicine at UM Prince Georges Hospital Center. She earned her medical degree from Temple University and a master's degree in public health from the University Of Massachusetts Amherst.

She is a fellow of the American College of Occupational and Environmental Medicine (FACOE) and has spoken on topics such as fitness for duty with respect to use of opioid and benzodiazepine medication use, prevention of blood borne pathogen exposure, and stress management.

She enjoys spending time with her family including her dog, Bono, and any time in or on the ocean.
