About Chelsey Smith, MD
Chelsey Smith, MD, is a board-certified rheumatologist who treats patients with rheumatic diseases, including systemic lupus erythematosus, rheumatoid arthritis, and other conditions. She is the associate director of the UC San Diego Lupus Center.
Her research includes various aspects of reproductive health in rheumatology patients, including studying women with autoimmune diseases in pregnancy and the effects on children born to mothers who take immune-modulating medications. Her work has appeared in several research-related journals.
Dr. Smith completed a fellowship in rheumatology at UC San Diego School of Medicine and a residency in internal medicine at UCLA David Geffen School of Medicine, Harbor-UCLA Medical Center. She earned her medical degree from New York University School of Medicine and is board certified in internal medicine and rheumatology.
Outside of work, Dr. Smith enjoys spending time with her two daughters and mini Goldendoodle. She is also a classically-trained singer.
