Carlos Alarid, PsyD

Carlos Alarid, PsyD, is a licensed clinical psychologist with Integrated Behavioral Health at UC San Diego Health, where he collaborates with primary care physicians to deliver integrated, whole-person care. He treats people with trauma, depression, anxiety, substance abuse and chronic pain.
In caring for his patients, Dr. Alarid collaboratively works alongside their primary care physician in the family medicine setting. He provides individual therapy using cognitive behavioral therapy and acceptance and commitment therapy. He has received specialized training in evidence-based treatments for post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), including prolonged exposure therapy (PE), cognitive processing therapy (CPT), and trauma focused-cognitive behavioral therapy (TF-CBT).
Dr. Alarid also has experience providing therapy to diverse patient populations, including Spanish speakers from different cultures and active-duty military personnel.
He is the primary clinical supervisor for third year doctoral students. His research interests include studying how professional boxers adjusted to retirement.
Dr. Alarid earned a master's degree and a doctorate, both in clinical psychology, from Alliant International University California School of Professional Psychology in San Diego. He is a member of the American Psychological Association.
In his free time, Dr. Alarid enjoys playing guitar to Spanish rock and mariachi music, watching boxing, running and spending time with family. He speaks fluent Spanish.
