About Jolene Rudell, MD, PhD
Jolene Rudell, MD, PhD, is a board-certified ophthalmologist who specializes in pediatric ophthalmology and adult strabismus, a visual problem in which the eyes are not properly aligned. She also treats patients with refractive error, lazy eye (amblyopia), cataracts in children, nasolacrimal duct disorders, congenital eye syndromes and systemic diseases that affect the eyes.
As an assistant professor in the Department of Ophthalmology, Dr. Rudell instructs medical students, residents and fellows at UC San Diego School of Medicine. She also performs research to better understand strabismus and extraocular muscle disease in order to seek improved treatments for patients. She is frequently invited to give presentations to doctors and technicians about pediatric eye diseases including strabismus, amblyopia and pediatric eye emergencies.
Dr. Rudell completed a fellowship in pediatric ophthalmology at University of Washington Seattle Children's Hospital. She completed a residency in ophthalmology at UC Davis School of Medicine where she also earned her medical degree and doctoral degree in neuroscience. Dr. Rudell is board certified in ophthalmology.
She is a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, the American Academy of Pediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus, and Women in Ophthalmology.
In her free time, Dr. Rudell enjoys ballet and hiking with her family. She speaks Korean fluently.
