About Alice Chong, MD
Alice Chong, MD, MHCI, is a radiologist who specializes in breast imaging, and evaluates women and men with breast lumps, breast pain, dense breasts and other breast health symptoms with advanced technologies.
She is an expert in breast cancer screening and diagnostic imaging, including 3-D mammograms (digital breast tomosynthesis), breast ultrasound and breast magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). She also performs image-guided procedures, including ultrasound-guided core biopsies, stereotactic core biopsies, MRI-guided core biopsies, needle localizations and non-radioactive seed localization.
As an associate professor in the Department of Radiology, Dr. Chong is involved in the teaching of fellows, residents and medical students at the UC San Diego School of Medicine, where she also serves as the Breast Imaging Fellowship program director.
Dr. Chong is also involved in clinical research on using new imaging techniques to detect breast cancer earlier and with fewer false positives, as well as developing new treatments for locally advanced breast cancer. She has been an invited speaker at international conferences on breast cancer screening and detection.
Dr. Chong completed fellowship training in breast imaging at the New York-Presbyterian Columbia University Medical Center, and fellowship training in body imaging at UCSF Medical Center. She completed her residency in diagnostic radiology at the Yale School of Medicine. Dr. Chong earned her medical degree from the University of Pennsylvania Perelman School of Medicine, where she also completed a master's degree in health care innovation (MHCI).
Prior to joining UC San Diego Health in 2019, she was an assistant professor at the University of Pennsylvania Perelman School of Medicine Department of Radiology.
Dr. Chong is a member of the Radiological Society of North America, the American College of Radiology, the American Roentgen Ray Society, the Society of Breast Imaging, the American Association of Women Radiologists, the Society for Imaging Informatics in Medicine, and the California Radiological Society.
She is the associate director of breast imaging operations for RAD-AID International, a WHO-affiliated, non-profit radiology volunteer organization working to improve and optimize access to medical imaging in low resource regions, and is involved in research, education and implementing programs in underserved areas throughout the world.
