Kathryn Fowler, MD, is a board-certified radiologist who specializes in body and oncological imaging. She performs liver imaging, hepatobiliary imaging, pancreatic imaging, vascular imaging, magnetic resonance imaging, renal imaging, gynecological imaging, rectal imaging and GI imaging.
As a professor in the Department of Radiology, Dr. Fowler is involved in the teaching of fellows, residents and medical students at the UC San Diego School of Medicine, where she also serves as director of abdominal and pelvic magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and director of the Liver Imaging Group (LIG). She is also a T32 research training grant director.
She has lectured nationally and internationally about liver cancer, transplantation, surgery, imaging and MRI, and written several book chapters and over 150 peer-reviewed publications.
Dr. Fowler also serves as deputy editor of Radiology. Dr. Fowler completed fellowship training in body MRI at Mallinckrodt Institute of Radiology, Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis, Mo., where she also completed her residency. She earned her medical degree from University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health in Madison, Wis. Dr. Fowler is board certified in diagnostic radiology.
She is a member of several professional societies including the International Society of Magnetic Resonance Imaging in Medicine, the Radiological Society of North America (RSNA), the Society of Abdominal Radiology and the American College of Radiology, among others. Dr. Fowler was named the RSNA William R. Eyler Editorial Fellow in 2018.
Outside of work, she enjoys travel, CrossFit, hiking and the beach.
