About Kristen Duarte, PhD
Kristen Duarte, PhD, is a licensed psychologist who treats people with anxiety disorders, obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD), tic disorders, attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), and patients with psychiatric and medical comorbidities.
In caring for her patients, she uses evidence-based treatment approaches such as cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), mindfulness, exposure and response prevention (ERP), and comprehensive behavioral intervention for tics (also known as CBIT, habit reversal training, or HRT).
Dr. Duarte also has experience providing therapy to diverse patient populations, including children, adolescents, transitional age youth, and college students.
As an assistant professor of psychiatry, she is involved in training medical residents at UC San Diego School of Medicine and is a provider in the College Mental Health Program. Her research interests include the development of antisocial behavior, internalizing and externalizing comorbidities, and the promotion of mental health among transitional age youth.
Dr. Duarte completed her PhD in clinical psychology from UCLA, where she also completed a master's degree in psychology. She earned her bachelor's degree from the University of Chicago.
She is a member of the American Psychological Association, the Association for Behavioral and Cognitive Therapies, the Association for Psychological Science, and the International OCD Foundation.
In her free time, Dr. Duarte enjoys running, hiking, playing with her puppy, and following gymnastics and soccer.
