About Jiun Do, MD, PhD

Jiun Do, MD, PhD, is a board-certified ophthalmologist who specializes in providing care for adults with glaucoma (open-angle glaucoma, angle-closure glaucoma, and secondary glaucoma). He is skilled in the diagnosis and treatment of glaucoma with medications, lasers, and surgeries. Dr. Do performs a range of procedures including:

  • Laser peripheral iridotomy (LPI)
  • Selective laser trabeculoplasty (SLT)
  • Trabeculotomy
  • Minimally invasive glaucoma surgeries
  • Glaucoma drainage devices
  • Trabeculectomy

Dr. Do also performs cataract surgeries and offers premium toric and multifocal lenses using intraoperative aberrometry, a tool that measures the biometry of the eye in the operating room to aid in the determination of intraocular lens power selection and placement.

As an assistant professor in the Department of Ophthalmology, Dr. Do instructs medical students, residents, and fellows at UC San Diego School of Medicine. He conducts translational research in the regeneration of the optic nerve using stem cell therapies and clinical research in the diagnosis and surgical management of glaucoma. Dr. Do's research has been published in the Journal of Current Ophthalmology, the Journal of Glaucoma, the American Journal of Ophthalmology Case Reports, and PLoS One.

He was the 2019 recipient of the American Glaucoma Society Mentoring for Advancement of Physician-Scientist Award, as well as the UC San Diego Academic Senate Health Sciences Research Award.

Dr. Do completed fellowship training in glaucoma at UC San Diego Health's Shiley Eye Institute and residency training at USC's Roski Eye Institute. He earned his MD from the UC San Diego School of Medicine and PhD in neurosciences from UC San Diego.

Dr. Do is member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, the American Glaucoma Society, and the Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology.
